NYC Kids Tours - FAQ's


Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Advance purchase is required and tours often sell out. To maximize the date and time you prefer please book well in advance. Tickets may be purchased with Visa, Mastercard or American Express either online or by calling 800-619-2795 Ext. 2.


Where do the tours begin and end?

The NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour begins at the SouthEAST corner of 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue at Bryant Park. The tour ends at The Plaza Hotel. The Subway/Walking version ends at Dylan's Candy Bar. The NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour begins at Washington Square Park NORTH at Fifth Avenue (underneath the arch) and ends at the NorthWEST corner of 14th Street and Eighth Avenue (in front of the Old New York Savings Bank Clock--now a CVS Pharmacy.)


How do I find the tour guide once I get there?

Look for the guide carrying the colorful totes.


How long are the tours?

The NYC Kids Learning & Fun Tour is approximately 2.5-3 hours and the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour is approximately 2 hours.


How many people are permitted on each of the tours?

The NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour is private and will consist of your family only. The NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Walking Tour is limited to 15 people. ALL children MUST be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years of age or older--no exceptions. Valid ID required.


What do we see/do on the tour?

You will see some famous NYC landmarks and attractions along with some fun kids-related stores! Each child will be given an activities book or activity sheets (for the Explore Greenwich Village Tour) with lessons that cover state educational standards. There are 3 levels of activity books/sheets available and they will be distributed according to your child's age. The guide will encourage the children to complete the activities on the tour or at home after the tour. This is a very interactive tour. For the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour you will be hopping in and out of the transportation a great deal to take part in activities. For the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour you will be walking approximately 1.5 miles.


How much time is spent on the bus vs. off the bus?

For the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour, about 40% of each tour is spent in transit although you will be entertained by the guide/given assignments in the activity books along the way. The other 60% of the tour is spent off the bus.


What is the mode of transportation?

A towncar, mini-van or bus is provided on the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour depending on number of people.


If I take the transportation tour is the transportation climate controlled?

Yes. The transportation has air-conditioning during the summer and heat during the winter.


Are we guided as a group the entire time?

Yes, although there will be some stops along the way where you will be granted 10 to 15 minutes of free time for browsing/taking photos.


Is there walking involved?

For the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour there is minimal walking required. For the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour you will be walking approximately 1.5 miles.


How much cash should I bring?

It’s always a good idea to have some cash on hand, however, there will be ATM’s along the way.


What if it rains or snows?

The tours run in all weather, and we advise you to dress accordingly.


What age are these tours most appropriate for?

These tours are most appropriate for children ages 6 to 11 although we can accommodate children under 6 years of age as well. These tours are not recommended for children under 3 years of age.


Is parking available near the tour pick up and drop off points?

For the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour, there is a parking garage located on 43rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues just one block north of Bryant Park. For the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour there is a parking garage EAST of Eighth Avenue. As rates for parking vary and can be expensive, we highly recommend public transportation or taxis.


Should I tip my guide?

Giving a tour is considered a service. Gratuity is definitely recommended and always greatly appreciated.


Who will my guide be?

Your guide will be a licensed NYC tour guide with a solid background in teaching and/or education. Please note that the tour activities were designed by Rhonda Rockwell, an educator for over 25 years with a Masters Degree in Education.


Is there a restroom anywhere during the tours?

There will be access to at least one public restroom on the tours and several cafes and restaurants. We highly recommend using the restroom PRIOR to the tour.


Are food and drink included in the ticket price?

Food and drink are not included in the ticket price of the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour. For the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour, the cupcakes are included. There will be places to purchase food/snacks along the way if you wish.


Are there places to rest during the tours?

There will be an opportunity to rest in the transportation for the NYC Kids Learning and Fun Tour and for the NYC Kids Explore Greenwich Village Tour there will be some park benches along the way.


Can I request a private group tour or a tour for a school group?

Absolutely! NYC Kids Tours will be happy to arrange a private tour for your family or school group. Please fill out the e-mail form above or call us at 800-619-2795 for more information.


Do you offer the tour in foreign languages?

We can provide a translator for an additional charge, if needed. Please contact us at 800-619-2795 for more information.


Are the tours wheelchair accessible?

Wheelchair accessible transportation can be provided upon request if requests are made at least 48 hours in advance. Please contact us at 800-619-2795 for more information.


Can I bring a stroller? Pet?

Strollers are permitted. Pets are not permitted.


Do you offer group discounts?

A 10% discount is offered to groups of 15 or more people.


When does your season end?

Our tours run year round.
